In Beijing, students practiced course concepts in a traditional Eastern culture, while experiencing first hand the influence that culture has on societal behavior and people's ways of viewing the world. In Shanghai, students experienced the merging of Eastern and Western cultures and saw how this convergence of two different cultures impacts people and their societal interactions.

Vietnam, the world’s 21st largest economy by 2025; Thailand, a newly industrialized country relying on exports; and China, transforming from a centrally planned to a market-based economy. During this program, students traveled to three countries in three weeks and gained insights into Asia’s economic opportunities and challenges, as they met with business and government leaders from across the continent.

Summer in Cambodia and Vietnam |
This program provided students with a two-week volunteering opportunity in Cambodia and a one-week exerience in Vietnam. In Cambodia, students worked on English Teaching projects with NGO-run schools. While in Vietnam, students immersed themselves in the unique culture of of the country, including a visit to the Mekong Delta. * The Asia Institute only supported the Vietnam portion of this program.

INNOVATE is a study abroad program and international conference for undergraduate and graduate students in business and engineering that examines the relationship between technology, globalization, and leadership. Over the past 10 years, INNOVATE has traveled to various countries in Asia, and has been hosted by the Asia Institute, in Beijing, Suzhou and Shanghai, for the last five years.

The Xavier University MBA program is designed to allow students to experience the business environment of China, as well as to expose students to the rapidly changing global economy. Site visits have included Johnson & Johnson, Nielsen, Delphi, Alibaba and BlueScope Steel. In the past, this program has visited Beijing, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Shanghai and Hong Kong SAR.

International Leadership in China |

This program incorporates company visits and cultural tours in four Chinese cities, in addition to lectures by industry experts. The program also provides a unique opportunity to experience business in China, by looking at the country through the lens of leadership. Among other included visits, this program includes a lecture on "Confucious, Lao Tzu and Contemporary Business Leadership in China".

Students will learn from leading company visits in Beijing and Shanghai, while understanding the history and unique culture of Xian. The program will integrate various thematic topics into the program, such as international marketing, communications, finance, and leadership, while reaching a broad cross section of the school's student population.

This program is taught as part of a Spring semester course, which combines in-class learning with an on-the-ground experience in China. During the program, students become aware of doing business in two different megacities in China, in a way that challenges students to observe and compare the similarities and differences of some of the most populated cities in the world.
